In his early works Arvo Siikamäki attacked Informalism and Pop Art. His furious, destructively expressive visions gave surrealist sculpture a new face. In his later works the striving for the abstract gained ground. `Discussion about the future' still carries, however, characteristics typical of Surrealism; the ambiguity of the figure's faces and the head protected by a helmet are reminiscent of the figures in Henry Moore's works. Staring eyes, the cutting edges of the helmet and the soft, smooth and curving lines of the body, together with the crude shaping of the limbs create delicious contrasts. Yet the figures, placed so that tension emerges between them, are linked to each other. ´Discussion about the future' was donated to improve the enlargement of the Parliament building, and it was unveiled in 1981. It is cast in bronze.
