Taru Mäntynen's materials are bronze and concrete. In `The Approaching', the roughness of the figures resembles a stuccoed surface. The impression of movement in the work is created by the dynamic composition; the figures seem to float towards each other. The work gives the cautious and subtle atmosphere of an awakening and delicate sexuality a beautiful treatment. The piece is cast in bronze and it was erected in the courtyard of the Parliament building in 1981. It is 2.1 metres high
