The entire quarter 206 of Helsinki's Kallio district was demolished in 1974 and replaced by the concrete- grey mammoth National Board of Education building. In 1980, Marjatta Weckström's bronze sculpture `Song of the Earth' was unveiled in the building's yard. The sculptor has characterized the work with the description "organically abstract". It consists of natural and soft organic intertwined forms which open upwards. The opening can been understood as a symbol of becoming free and of continuity. Associating more freely, the viewer can recognize human figures or flowers about to bloom.
