The Module' was donated to the City of Helsinki by the Association of General Contractors of Finland on its 50th anniversary. The sculpture is made of steel- reinforced concrete, an appropriate choice as it was also the basic construction material in the urbanization of Finland, beginning in the 1960s. In terms of monumental sculpture, however, Tapper's choice can be considered avantgardist - at the time, public sculptures were made of either bronze, stone or steel.
Kain Tapper began to make abstract works of sculpture already in the early 1960s. In Tapper's works, the abstract usually contains fine and delicate impressions and signs of natural observation. In `The Module', however, his vision is different: the structure is given emphasis and its atmosphere is based on repetition and symmetry.
