"Urbanist" comprises two parts: a cubist-style bust of a woman and an open hand, both placed on a granite pedestal. Häiväoja's original idea was to sculpt the entire piece of stone, but at the client's request he used bronze plates instead, which he bent and welded together.

The sculpture was originally commissioned by the Association of Finnish Cities on the basis of an invited competition, and located in the courtyard of the former City Institute in Espoo.
"Urbanist" was later transferred to the House of Municipalities, built by the Association of Finnish Local and Regional Authorities in Helsinki's Kallio district in 1997.

Other works in the City by the artist include "Concrete Symphony", "Memorial to Adolf Erik Nordenskiöld", "Cooperation monument" and "Memorial to Women in Times of War".
