To add some life to the 70’s architecture of the Myllypuro subway station, artist Riikka Puronen created this piece of art to be decorative, but also tranquil and interactive. It can be touched and sounds can be made with it.

The sculpture, rising off a granite pedestal, consists of four bronze balls and a slightly higher sculpture with a seashell motif. Round and polished stones are embedded on the surface of the bronze balls. By rolling the stones, you can create pleasing sounds.

For this piece of art, the artist has taken influences from prayer wheels, cylinders containing prayers that are revolved in devotions, especially by Tibetan Buddhists. Sirena’s Strings was published 1.7.2004.
