In 1996, the Helsinki City Art Museum arranged a competition for a sculpture to be placed in the Vuosaari metro station. The first prize was awarded to artist Jussi Niva's entry entitled Newton's Rings. Based on Newton's Rings, Niva created a multipart piece placed in the roof trusses of the glass-and-steel station building. The piece extends the length of the 84-metre station. Expose is made of 8 mm transparent polycarbonate painted with acrylics using a computerized spray painting technique.
