Memorial plate to the evacuation of children 1939-1945.
From Sokos department store off Mannerheimintie and under the railway station square in the foot tunnel is a modest copper plate fixed to the tiled wall which reads:
THE EVACUATION OF CHILDREN 1939-1945
THOUSANDS OF CHILDREN LEFT FOR REFUGE FROM THIS SPOT TO OTHER NORDIC COUNTRIES
DURING THE WAR YEARS OF 1939-1945
HELSINGIN SEUDUN SOTALAPSET RY (a children support group from the district of Helsinki
The children received refuge with families in Nordic countries.
