Arabianranta’s walkway is adorned with Howard Smith’s environmental work, which consists of eight red and orange-yellow metal sculptures. The work is part of an art project which was intended to bring the Arabianranta environs to life.

Smith is a diverse artist, working with different mediums such as sculpture, paintings, industrial and decorative arts—such as ceramic techniques. Smith migrated from the USA to Finland in 1962. Smith’s art typically features illuminous colours and clear lines. He was awarded a prestigous Finnish national art prize, the Taideteollisuuden Valtionpalkinto, in 2001.
