Jussi Heikkilä's work is located at Eiranranta, with two parts in Pyhän Birgitan puisto park and a third in Pyhiinvaeltajanpuisto park. Made of acid-resistant steel, the three-part work derives its shapes from three islands in the Gulf of Finland: Harmaja, Tunnholmen and Sommarn. The cut-out patterns on the island-shaped sculptures refer to bladderwrack (Fucus vesiculosus).
The artist has spent time on all three islands. Harmaja is located about 6 km south of Helsinki, Tunnholmen belongs to the rural municipality of Porvoo, and Sommarn to that of Inkoo.
In his conceptual art, Heikkilä comments on the state of nature and the environment, observing nature and man's relationship to it. He often uses natural materials, such as wood and feathers.
The work was produced as part of the City of Helsinki Percent for Art programme.
The work belongs to the collections of the Helsinki Art Museum.
