Pirkko Nukari's Flock of Geese consists of life-size geese that appear to be guarding the small plaza in Lintulahti. Nukari's bronze birds are modelled after the domestic goose. She says that geese are excellent guards because they always make a big racket when something unusual happens.Nature and especially birds are close to Pirkko Nukari and often feature in her art.

Lintulahti is a recently completed housing district near Merihaka in central Helsinki, sandwiched between the older Kallio district and the sea. For almost a century it was a densely built industrial area until work was begun on the first residential high rises in 1997. Lintulahti has some 1500 residents. Flock of Geese was commissioned on the initiative of Lintulahti's developer Skanska to enliven the area.
