In 1982, a grey granite memorial stone was erected in Pohjoisranta. The text in the stone reminds the reader that the surrounding trees are themselves a memorial. The text reads "Nämä puut istutettiin syksyllä 1943 keisarillisen Japanin lähettilään, T. Sakayan toimesta Japanin ja Suomen kansojen välisen ystävyyden vertauskuvaksi." (These trees were planted in autumn 1943 by the ambassador of Imperial Japan, T. Sakaya, as a symbol of the friendship between the peoples of Japan and Finland).
