FINNIMATE!
30.1. - 27.4.2008

At the same time with the Pixar exhibition, Art Museum Tennis Palace will present a review of new Finnish animation art. The exhibition will include short films by young filmmakers, animated music videos and art animation made using the traditional drawing and puppet animation techniques.

The exhibition will draw attention to the rich variety of animation and introduce more marginal Finnish productions alongside the work of Pixar, a world-renowned master of 3D animation. In addition, both exhibitions will illustrate the creative artistic process that is behind every animation.

Animations can be made with surprisingly low-tech means. The exhibition does include one major production, the new Finnish puppet animation Curse of Remote Island, which its makers call a "media-critical slapstick comedy." The stages of the making of this film are presented through sketches, sets and puppets.

Finnimate! will showcase Finnish contemporary artists who use animation in their work. It also includes a compilation of new animations by students of the animation programme at the Arts Academy in Turku.

The animated music videos were selected in cooperation with the Oulu Music Video Festival.
