Where do you come from? In what kind of country were you born and raised? What remains of it in you?

Finland is celebrating its 90th anniversary of national independence in 2007. Over the past decades, the country has experienced an unprecedented rate of economic, technological and social change. Our whole way of life is now completely different from what it still was only a few decades ago.

Our Land! is an exhibition tracing changes in the Finnish way of life from the 1960s to the present day with the means of documentary photography. The works of 23 photographers show how Finns have lived in recent decades, both in Finland and as migrants abroad.

The photographs of the exhibition tell not only of recent history but also of developments in photography. The photograph also visualizes ways of seeing and evaluating what is seen in different periods.

The scale of everyday life appears to have quickly expanded from our own country to the ends of the earth. Therefore it is a good idea to take a look at things to be found close to home.

The exhibition is curated by Riitta Raatikainen.
